If ever there was an example of comparing “apples” to “oranges”, this is it. Our products are significantly different than the competition
The most obvious one is that Red 1 and Green Sleeves are both loop surface covers, while all of Novatech’s products are sheared. The soft, velour-like surface of both Duroweave and New Mol is far more water receptive than any loop cover.
Another major difference is the lack of dye: we could color our material, yellow or purple for example, but we don’t for a couple of reasons. First, a colored dampening cover has more to do with marketing than functionality. Dyed yarn may add to product recognition, but it actually creates an encumberment to the intended purpose. The pigment particles which constitute a color dye cling to the strands of yarn and actually impede the flow of water and chemistry. They create what constitutes an “obstacle course” for the water molecules to traverse. As a result, less water makes it to the plate than would otherwise. Press operators are often forced to increase the metering setting to compensate, resulting in uneven distribution.
The second reason for avoiding dye: cost. On average, color yarn costs 20% more than white yarn. Red and green covers may be pretty to look at, but you are paying for the privilege.
