Mounting NEW MOL Roll Material

New Mol is a full-bodied covering intended for use on rollers designed for conventional dampening material. Oversized rollers intended for use with 3M Dampening Sleeves or BBA Nonwoven’s Red Runner dampening material may be used, provided the roller-to-plate pressure setting can be adjusted to compensate for the increased overall diameter. Our covers work best as the sole covering on the roller. They may, however, be used over a fabric undercover if necessary.

New Mol is knit with moisture activated, shrinking yarn. In order to avoid premature shrinkage, store in a cool, dry place. Reseal the plastic storage bag securely after each use.

Rolls of New Mol are intended for use on larger sheetfed and web presses. Precut lengths of both materials are available with or without drawstrings for smaller presses and duplicators

1.) New Mol is packaged inside-out with the pile or "printing" surface facing inward. The correct surface orientation is achieved during the mounting procedure.

Cut a length of material equal to the length of the roller PLUS an additional 10" to 12" (260-300mm) of material. Select the end of the cover pointed to by the arrows stamped on the cover and tuck about 4" to 5" (100-127mm) of the cover into itself as though you were turning the cover right side out. (SEE FIGURE 1 BELOW)

Figure 1

Place this tucked-in portion of the cover over one end of the roller, pushing it down about one inch (25mm). (SEE FIGURE 2 BELOW)

Figure 2

As you pull the cover down the length of the roller, the cover will turn right side out. When finished there should be approximately equal amounts of cover extending beyond each roller end. If not, reverse the above procedure and remount, adjusting the length of material tucked into itself.

2.) Take the roller to the sink and wet only the MIDDLE HALF of the cover with hot tap water (85O F, 30O C max.) for about one minute. The purpose of pre-wetting just the center area of the roller is to allow some lateral shrinkage to take place before the ends are secured. This will reduce the possibility of the cover shrinking off the roller. IMPORTANT: Do not wet the cover any closer than 6" (150mm) of the roller ends.

3.) The ends of the cover can now be sewn or wrapped tightly with string or secured with nylon electrician ties. If sewing, make close stitches approximately 1/4" (7mm) apart.

4.) Now return to the sink and saturate the entire cover with warm to hot water for about one minute. (Regarding the proper temperature, a general guide is that the water may be as hot as you can physically withstand, but no hotter. Cold water will also work but not as efficiently.) Remove excess water by rolling on a flat, clean surface, blotting with a towel, or stroking the roller with your clenched hand in the direction of the nap. Carefully dry and lubricate any bearings and/or bushings on the roller ends.

5.) Mount the roller(s) on the press. Adjust the cover-to-plate pressure according to the press manufacturer's specifications. Note that New Mol absorbs and retains more fountain solution than most dampening materials and may require less pressure and/or a lower water transfer setting than you are accustomed to using
